Hard To Find legendary Guitar at Musician’s Friend (exp:12/31)

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

Fifteen years ago, I was given GrandDaddy’s fiddle. Mike Casey was the man who taught me to play it. I can’t thank him enough for all his support and encouragement over the years. He opened up a new world to me, including fiddle contests. His book “Elementary Fiddling”  is the book I used to learn. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in fiddle/violin. It can be used with or without a teacher. Thank you Mike!

Bobby Hicks is one of my all time favorite fiddlers. His recordings occupy a very large part of my library. I particularly enjoy ‘Fiddle Patch’.  Bobby’s DVD “Bobby Hicks Teaches Fiddling Volume 1” is absolutely invaluable.  A “Must Have”! Bobby’s workshops in Marshall, NC are highly recommended. Please visit his site for more information.  FiddleplayereBBobby’s

From the instant I saw the Del McCoury Band on The Tonight Show, I was hooked!  I became a fan and just “had to have”  Del’s recordings. One of my favorites is “Nothin’ Special”. Please visit his site and give a listen.  Don’t forget to sign up for the newsletter and grass roots team too.  Fiddleplayer

I’m often asked if the fiddle and violin are the same instrument. The answer is yes. The difference is the music you play.  And yes, I do play both. The next logical question is electric or acoustic. I have two antique acoustics and one Fender electric solid body. All have different voices and purposes. But I do employ a Barcus Berry pickup for the antiques. It’s one of the best on the market for several reasons: No damage to the finish, ease of use, non-permanent, and exceptional tone quality. More in Part 2, “Electric or Acoustic”. Fiddleplayer
